"The church rose to the occasion and gave generously..."

The Fusion Team are regularly on the road in the UK meeting with churches and students. This week, Katie, a member of the Fusion team, shares what she is noticing during her time with students.

“We have been particularly encouraged by what we have seen God do in Northampton. This story starts with the curate at St Giles who proposed a new student worker role and invited the church to pray and raise the funds to employ someone. The church rose to the occasion and gave generously enabling the church to recruit a student worker. We LOVE that student mission in Northampton was made possible by all generations from within the church. Ruth took the role in September and has shown up as a missionary to the student population, pioneering a brand new student work in a town that is pioneering student life.

Ruth has had incredible favour with the university and has been trusted with a staff lanyard and key giving her access to the campus and facilities, she has been used as a tool for unity in the city gathering student workers and church leaders regularly to pray for students and she has connected with students from nations across the globe, giving them the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel!

Isaiah 61:11 tells us that "For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations." Student ministry is beginning to “sprout” where it hasn’t been a priority before. There is new and fresh vision. God is speaking to people, encouraging people, calling people to student mission, speaking to people about how to do it creatively and in new ways.

A bonus highlight is the midlands and East team itself. For a long time we have been a “teeny-weeny team” as I once off handedly described the team in a meeting, which has obviously never been forgotten by the rest of the team. We prayed for people to feel called to student mission, asking God to send the workers, to release vision and to be sowing people hie hear for students in the Midlands and East of England and our “teeny Weeny” team of two has now doubled and we are now a team of four! The team is so much richer with new gifting a vision in the mix, we are loving getting out on the road together to serve churches in the midlands and East! Don’t miss out on getting time in with the team, they are full of winsome, vision and fun."

Why not pray this prayer over the Fusion Team this month?

Jesus, we thank you that you are calling people to the join in with you in your mission to see students lives transformed as they have the opportunity to know freedom and hope in you. God would you bless those that are partnering with you and joining you in your mission, would you be raising their faith for what you can do, would you be speaking in dreams and pictures, revealing more of your heart for the student generation.
