Week 22 - Gathering to worship & pray

Last year we ran a conference called Wide Awake. Our vision was to gather people from across the nation who are wide awake to the call of student mission. We had an amazing two days in Loughborough and this year, in June, we’ve decided to do it again.

But we know there is more to seeing local churches respond to the calling to reach a generation of students than a yearly conference. We’re seeing people and churches mobilised to reach the students in their cities and that takes time. So, we’ve also been travelling around the UK doing what we call Wide Awake nights. The vision is to capture the heart of the Wide Awake conference and bring it to local churches. We want to envision students and catalyse mission.

In December we hosted our first one of the academic year in Bristol. Roughly 100 students, from multiple churches, gathered to worship and pray for a move of God in their city. There was joy, dancing, and the opportunity for students to respond to the call of Jesus over their life.

Five students gave their lives to Jesus that night.

Another student responded to a word about feeling afraid around the idea of mission and wanting to grow in confidence. In the ministry time he felt let to take out his phone and send his best friend a message to ask if they'd want to meet up and talk about Jesus. His friend replied straight away and said yes! They’ve been meeting up regularly since that night.

God is moving among the student generation and we are planning on doing more Wide Awake nights as we build up to our Wide Awake conference (June 25th-26th). By the time this post comes out we’ll have also done nights in London and Guildford. There are more to come this term (see dates below), if you’re free then come along, don’t miss out on what God is doing.

Lincoln - 21st Feb

Hatfield - 13th March

Manchester - 14th March

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
