"Flooding social media" How a student started using online for good news

The traditional student mentality is one of preparing for the future. Getting ready for life after your degree, preparing and gaining the skills needed to have a bright successful career. But what about now? God has placed people, skills and passions into your life right now for a reason, not to simply put them on the back burner for a few years. As Christians we need to not simply focus on the if, when and the future, we need to place ourselves into the here and now. Thinking outside the box on how we can be missional and bring others to know the love of Christ along with growing in our own relationship with Him.

Rarely are we going to be around so many not-yet-believers than whilst at university, which is why it's so important to plug into the local church and be the change you want to see on your campus, here in the present as well as in the future after graduation.

Whilst at university I felt this calling to flood social media with Christ. It’s something nearly everyone uses no matter their course, background or belief so it’s here that along with 15 friends at various university's across the UK, DoingLifeTogether was founded.

We’re an online community with the simple purpose to provide the resources and tools for you to grow in your faith and be missional. From blogs, downloadable Bible studies and prayer to worship, teaching and partnerships to aid missional life, we’re trying to flood social media with the love of Christ to ensure being a Christian whilst at university in 2015 is an exciting lifestyle, not a routine.

This community has already surpassed all of our expectations now in 10 countries across the globe and partnering with some incredible causes such as the A21 campaign and Christians in Politics. We encourage anyone at all to share prayer requests and blogs via our website which has led to some incredible testimonies, for example one student at The University of Lincoln sent in a blog she wrote after hearing a preach at church that really spoke to her. This one blog was then shared via the DoingLifeTogether website which was then seen by both a pastor in America and a young student in Australia, both then messaged in with a testimony of how Christ had used that one small blog to really speak into their life to equip others and be missional in their sphere of influence.

As it says in Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”. We’re called by Him to share about our faith, not to be a beige Christion and keep our faith to ourselves, but we’re called to shout about Him, share the salvation He brings and through our lifestyle shine so that through us, others can see Him.

Today's guest blogger Luke Hamilton set up 'DoingLifeTogether' as a student with some mates and a vision to make a difference in their everyday world of following Jesus. I wonder what you could do today with your every-day?
