Keep your eyes peeled

Jenna is a third year student at Cardiff uni, from South Africa but loving Wales! She is soon to become the new Student Worker at City Temple Cardiff and is buzzing with student stories from her final year.

She was so excited to tell me the story of Joe who arrived at Cardiff last September. What stood out to Jenna was that Joe seemed a little lonely and a bit lost in the city.

Instead of feeling embarrassed or shy about speaking to Joe about this, she confidently invited him to church.

Later, he told her that he was brought up a Catholic but his faith had always felt like a tradition rather than a personal relationship.

Since Jenna invited him to church he has been on a journey of falling completely in love with Jesus. The loneliness he felt has disappeared, he has found a future and purpose in life, plus great friendships. He also recently got baptised in City Temple and shared his amazing story with the church.

What's exciting is that Joe has become an outright evangelist. Anyone Joe comes into contact with he can't help but tell them about Jesus and what Jesus has done for him and his life. He has even started bringing all his non-Christian course mates along to church.

One particularly great moment was when he invited the staunch atheist to church. He came and loved it. Since then his atheist mate has started volunteering and serving at the homeless shelter.

Joe is just one from a whole pile of Jenna’s stories. From this story, let’s be encouraged to keep our eyes peeled! Let’s not be too busy scrolling down Facebook or indulged in our own life that we may not notice those around us, longing for friendship and that personal relationship with Jesus. Let’s be confident and tell those around us about Jesus. You just don’t know what the knock-on effect may be!
