The 5 awkward truths for church leaders

Well this is awkward!

I love a good awkward moment. I hope you like my awkward face on this blog! I'm the one who laughs at embarrassing wedding speeches or when my kid says "Daddy, look at that massive fat man!". I'm also a fan of pointing out the elephant in the room and commenting that the Emperor isn't wearing much. Whilst moments like these can make us grimace, they can also lead to honesty and growth.

So here are my 5 awkward truths that church leaders need to hear about student work. These reflections are based on many conversations that I have had with student workers and church leaders across the UK.

Truth 1 - You don't invest enough money in reaching students.

Truth 2 - You think students are too young for "proper" leadership

Truth 3 - You are only interested in Christian students, not all students.

Truth 4. Your students need to be in and leading non-Christian societies.

Truth 5. Everything is better when students are discipled in the local church.

These blogs are generalisations. The truths I have stated might not be true in your church. My objective is to provoke and inspire rather than accuse or discourage. Apologies if I haven’t got that balance right in your case.
