The Cobbler

I had my shoes mended the other day. The soles were wearing thin so I visited the Sole Man. (If it's not punny, it's not funny!) He is an odd little fellow who seems genuinely miffed that I actually wear my shoes and develop problems with them. He sighs slowly, tuts and shakes his head at me. Then he fixes them for about £3!

I get all sorts of things fixed. Zips on coats, stitching in suits, the hoover, tumble dryer, lawn-mower and lots of other things.

In our disposable culture, it's gratifying to repair, restore and rework things.

I don't understand why people throw things away and buy new stuff when they could repair them instead.

God happens to be the master of this. He makes all things new. When we repent and believe in him, we are made into a new creation. He is the restorer of souls, the repairer of the broken hearted, the healer of the sick and the rescuer of the lost. And in the end there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

But when he makes things new, he doesn't throw away the old and get a totally new version, he remakes and restores so to a standard that's better than the original. We are born again!

God chooses to partner with his people in bringing about this restoration. In His name we are able to heal, restore and replenish.

Let's continually go to the Lord for running repairs, knowing that each time he works on us we are closer to the image he created us in.

Let's join with God in bringing healing and hope to the souls of those around us.

let's be the cobblers.
