MISSION STYLES: LET ME EXPERIENCE

My mission style is Let Me Experience and for me it’s all about going out and doing things.

When I read the bible, I want to experience it today and my faith comes alive when I live out the stories of boldness and courage we read about.

When I'm reading the bible, I fist pump the air when Peter has the audacity to tell a crippled beggar to ‘get up and walk’, my jaw drops when Jesus calls Lazarus out of the tomb and raises him back to life.

Seeing these stories of risk-taking and pioneering mission inspire me to try them out for myself, I love giving new things a go and just seeing what happens. Sure it might not work everytime and I might fall flat on my face, but at least I tried!

Every year my church in York gets involved with helping to steward the big freshers night out in the city. We hand out glitter, glow sticks, lollipops and meet loads of new students and get to chat to them and have a great time being part of the night! For some of you, this may sound like a living nightmare but in that environment of adventure and chaos, my confidence and energy hits the roof.

For those of us who are ‘Let Me Experience’, getting to meet new people, joining in with new causes and dreaming up fresh radical ideas energises us and gives us life.

If you’re reading this and think you may be ‘Let Me Experience’, here are some tips for you to make the most of your mission style:

  • Step out of your comfort zone and embrace the mentality that awkwardness and failures are lessons and not regrets.
  • Don’t be afraid to face up to danger and don’t settle for safety.
  • Get out of the pews and into the streets.
  • Invite others to join in with your causes and your ideas, use your energy and passion to help envision those around you.

If you’ve resonated with anything in my story, then you may well be a ‘Let Me Experience’ person, take the test now and discover your Mission Style.
