MISSION STYLES: CONVINCE ME

Okay! You’ve proven it! I’m a 'Convince Me' person!

It took me a while to be sure. I did the Mission Styles test three times to be sure it was reliable and accurate but now: I’m convinced.

Whether it’s deciding to buy the new iPhone, or working out if the bible is actually God’s word, I take my time to ensure I make the right decision. I look at the facts, the diagrams and tables, check all the angles, and know that when I’ve made my mind up I can back it up with good sources.

Have you ever decided you didn’t like a movie because there was no way that ending was realistic? Maybe you’re like me and you are a 'Convince Me' person.

I love reading about the stories when Jesus gets tested by “experts in the law” like in Mark 10:2 and Matthew 22:35. These people are 'Convince Me' people, and Jesus ALWAYS comes through. Jesus was the best at 'Convince Me' mission. His answers are smart right? They’re convincing!

I often will name-drop Jesus or church into a conversation in the hope that the person I’m speaking to will engage with me in a discussion about who God is. That I’ll be able to convince them to take a step, however big, towards knowing Jesus. Maybe you do the same?

When sharing Jesus with your mates, a 'Convince Me' person will often present structured arguments with clear points followed by reasons and scripture to back up their points. They will often get into healthy debates discussing some more in-depth questions. They'll often point people in the direction of books or towards particular courses like ‘Alpha’.

Here are my top tips for sharing Jesus with a 'Convince Me' person:

  • Don’t ‘blag it’. If you don’t know an answer to their question, then be straight with people. Say you don’t know but point them to someone or something that would answer their question.

  • Know your bible. Back your points up with bible scriptures- “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword

  • Name-drop Jesus. 'Convince Me' people will tend to ask questions, and open a discussion up when given this prompt.

I challenge you to take the Mission Styles Test. Find out what Mission Style you are. I hope I can convince you…
