Making Space

Twenty years ago, to the exact day, I made the journey up the motorway with my dad to come to Loughborough Uni.

I arrived feeling daunted, excited and praying hard that I'd meet some other christians who would help me hold onto God through the unknown. I did meet other christians and it's fair to say they changed my life. I really don't know what I would be doing with my life now, if I hadn't met them.

This morning, after dropping my daughter off at school I thought I'd mark the 20 years of being here by doing a rainy prayer drive around Campus (with my youngest child in the back!). I drove slowly round watching freshers arriving with parents, looking at their faces and praying for them. I drove past places where I'd led friends to Christ, where I'd made mistakes!, where I'd prayed prayers that I've seen fulfilled and where I'd prayed prayers that I haven't yet seen fulfilled.

At our recent church Leaders Weekend a prophetic word was given about 'Making Space' - making space in our hearts and our lives for the new people that God will be bringing to us. The 'fall-out' rate of christian young people losing their faith when they come to Uni is heart breaking. There are parents all over the country who are praying that their son or daughter will quickly get connected into a church community. The next few weeks are decision making weeks for many freshers and I want us to do all we can to help them make good decisions to follow Christ for the rest of their lives. Please make space in your heart for these new guys turning up.
