Hands scrambled, empty chairs were upturned and excited whispers spread like wildfire.
My week at Spring Harvest was something of an eye opener. Parents and grandparents alike reacted with fresh eyes when told about the pathway we create to connect young people with local churches and other Christians before they've even left home for uni. Parent after parent looked at us with hungry, grateful eyes and I was reminded again how simple, how brilliant this is.
Hazel Creaghan is a student at York University and goes to G2, part of St Michael le Belfrey. She writes here about her visit to the Fusion Equipping Day.
We love youth workers. We love their dedication, their vision and their creativity. We love that they are committed to working in a challenging environment with world shapers and future leaders - scrap that, with leaders.
This year Fusion has begun a mission to partner with as many youth workers as we can.
Alice was nervous. Only a few hours to go before her flight, and then she'd be off... She'd prayed about it, she'd dreamed about it, she was more certain it was right than anything she'd ever decided upon. Her heart broke when she thought of those families, those individuals in so much need, in need of help, in need of comfort, in need of strength, in need of a saviour. Looking at the photos on her bedroom wall she was filled with gratitude. Everyone was behind her, they'd been so encouraging, so enthusiastic. It was a bittersweet joy, leaving home and all that belonged now, into a future uncertain but profound. She might only be her, but everyone knows that one missionary can make a world of difference.
Simple...or profound? (or both!)
Jonah was a runaway, a grump, selfish, resentful and cowardly. Yet Jonah was set a high bar, a high bar that remained - Jonah is a story of high call, high faith.
It’s so easy to have low hopes for our school leavers’ uni lives – that they’ll still like God in four years and find Christian friends who’ll keep them going. Harsh to call these low hopes?
