School Leavers...
Say hello to the new you.
Going away to university provides a great opportunity to get to know people free from the preconceptions people have had about you since playgroup! So, take the opportunity to be who you really want to be. Spend some time really understanding why you believe what you believe. There will be nothing, except for your own deeply held values, to stop you doing whatever you want at uni.Set boundaries.
With drinking such a big part of student culture, when do you stop? How far is too far in relationships? There is huge pressure to conform, so decide what you stand for before you go to uni, and ask someone you trust to keep you accountable.
Set a precedent from the beginning.
It will be difficult to change your behaviour, and explain what you’re really living for, if you spend the first two weeks of university going off the rails. You will be respected for consistency.
Set an example.
Don’t preach, but set example for loving people who live differently. Help drunk friends find their way home safely, get them a glass of water, look after them when they are being sick.
Commit to a local church.
It could seem like a good idea to spend the first term trying out a different church each week. The reality is, you’ll never get chance to visit all of them. Check out some churches in the area before you arrive at university. Sign up to Student Linkup and check out the ‘Find a Church’ page. You should be able to get a good idea of where you’d like to go before you even arrive.
Get resourced.
