20's are our selfish years

I saw this on Instagram…

‘Your 20's are your selfish years. Old enough to make the right decisions and young enough to make the wrong ones. Be selfish with your time- travel, explore, fall in and out of love, be ridiculous and silly, stupid and wild. Be 20 something'

Do you agree with this?

I’m not sure I do.

Jesus says....

‘turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily’ (Luke 9:23)

‘turn the other cheek’ (Matthew 5: 38-40)

'Don't just pretend to love other, really love them' (Romans 12:9)

‘Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves’ (Philippians 2:3)

In our 20’s, from our perspective, we have so much going on. Uni, living purely and biblically, our relationship with God, housemates, coursemates, essays, the future, praying, jobs, reading our bibles, boyfriends/ girlfriends, money, family, friends, our bodies, our thoughts, what we eat, what we wear, how we look, what we do, good times, bad times, making the most of our time.

Life’s busy, there’s a lot going on. Let me encourage you to ‘live life to the full’ in your 20’s by making them your selfless years. Let’s commit to church and serving, lets give our money away, give others our time and energy. Let’s look out for others and have a wider perspective. Look up and look out!! Let’s challenge this ideas that we’re selfish, and we just want to live for ourselves or just to have fun.

Take some time to think...this summer, how can you live selflessly?

A few ideas- offer to babysit for a family, text a few different people bible verses you’ve read, pray for someone you wouldn’t usually pray for, buy someone a coffee, visit an old person (30 plus ;)), start tithing, encourage someone, chat to someone properly at the checkout in a shop, ask God to speak to you instead of you speaking to God.
