One of the best things about working with students is that they are a generation who have faith for change and a sense of their part in it. 

The noticeable growth zero-waste lifestyles, amongst others, are (whether you adhere to them or not) signs of a generation who are aware and engaged in the impact of their consumer and lifestyle choices.

Disposable plastic hit the news last year when the French government committed to ban all plastic cups, cutlery and plates as of 2020. A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and this September, Fusion was due to contribute over 350 to that number in preparation for our Student Work Conference. All plastic that has ever been made still exists, in some form, and by 2050 it is predicted that the sea will contain more plastic, by weight, than fish!

We are following Loughborough University's lead in looking to reduce our disposables waste. We are excited to be running a cup scheme for the first time at this year’s Student Work Conference, giving everyone a chance to use a reusable cup over the two days to significantly reduce our plastic and disposable waste.

So next week, bring a fiver with you for a deposit on your very own 'Pilgrim not Tourist' reusable cup. If you really don't want it, you can return it at the end of the Conference for your £5, but even better, why not keep it and commit to taking it with you to conferences, the office, campus, wherever, to help significantly diminish your plastic waste.
